English will help students develop the key skills necessary to be good communicators and valued members of the workforce. The topics covered in this course include reading and comprehension, building a substantial vocabulary, using grammatically correct English, and speaking and writing the language that is necessary for success in the workplace. This course is designed to help all levels of students— from those with language skill deficiencies or English as a second language to professionals and businesspeople.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the basic parts of speech used in standard English.
- Recognize the various components of speech used in a sentence.
- Explain how to use various types of reference tools to aid in writing.
- Compose a business letter, memo, e-mail, and essay.
