EDU 647 Educational Standards and Accountability

Educational Standards and Accountability provides a comprehensive analysis of the accountability movement, its dimensions, and its implications. The course looks at both the internal workings of schools and the external environment and the implication for policies and the systems to hold schools accountable. It is designed to facilitate leadership in the promotion of educational accountability and in the development of further research and scholarship in the accountability movement.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the evolution of educational accountability and discuss the educational reform movement since the 1980s.
  • Analyze the process of assessing performance accountability and measurement in education.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the early roots of education governance in the United States.
  • Analyze the complex factors, both internal and external, that shape the study of educational standards and accountability.
  • Examine the implications for working toward sustainable and equitable education reform.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with academic writing related to educational standards and accountability.
