CLEP, DANTES (DSST) and Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

College Board CLEPCalifornia Coast University (CCU) has been designated as an open test center for the College Level Examination Program (CLEP®), DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) and Miller Analogies Test (MAT). CCU accepts many of the CLEP® Subject Exams and DSST exams for undergraduate credit. CCU accepts up to a maximum of ninety-three (93) credit hours through national standardized examinations.

CLEP/DSST Exams Available:

CCU administers 32 CLEP exams and all 33 DSST exams on the computer. Four CLEP exams offer optional essays (American Literature, Analyzing & Interpreting Literature, College Composition Modular, and English Literature) which are handwritten and scored by the candidate’s institution. Two DSST exams have optional essays (Ethics in America and Technical Writing) which are presented at the end of the exam. Candidates who are prepared to take any of the exams with optional essays should know before registering if the essay is required by their institution.

*CCU does not have the capability to administer the DSST Principles of Public Speaking exam.

Testing Days and Times:

CLEP®, DSST and MAT exams are administered Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Examinees need to report to the Test Center at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment.

Registration:

The Online Registration Form must be completed and submitted online, along with the required administration fee, in order for an appointment to be scheduled. Examinees should receive an email notification from the Test Center (usually within one business day) to indicate the scheduled appointment date and time.  Contact the Test Center before registering to verify the test center will be open and to confirm available dates and times. Please note that exams will be scheduled based upon time availability and convenience for both the candidate and Test Center staff.

Online Registration Form

To schedule your CLEP®, DSST or MAT online, click here.

Fees:

A separate, non-refundable administration fee is charged at the rate of $30 for each exam registration at the Test Center. This fee is separate from the cost of the exam and must be paid by credit card (Master Card, Visa, Amex, or Discover/Novus). This fee is paid when the examinee submits their Online Registration Form to request an appointment time for their exam. To avoid forfeiture of the admin fee, please provide at least two business days’ notice if a scheduled appointment needs to be changed. No shows or cancellations will automatically forfeit the administration fee.

The cost for each DSST exam is $80.  Please bring a credit card with you on the day of your exam to pay these charges directly to DSST.  Bank cards are not an acceptable form of payment unless they can be processed as "credit".

Effective 10/22/13 - CLEP® candidates must register and pay for their exam using CLEP's new online registration system "My Account."  After registering, you must bring the registration ticket to the Test Center on the day of testing.  An alternate method is to show an image of the registration ticket on a smartphone.  Please contact the Test Center for more details if needed.

The total cost of a MAT exam is $80, which includes the $30 administration fee charged by the Test Center and the $50 exam cost of the Miller Analogies Test.  Both the cost of the exam and the administration fee will be charged together immediately upon online registration for MAT examinees.

Free Exams for Military:

CLEP® and DSST offer their exams free to eligible military personnel.  As of 10/22/13, CLEP requires all candidates (military and civilian) to register for their exams through My Account.  CCU has waived the administration fee for active duty military members only.  All DANTES-funded candidates should call the Test Center to schedule their exam.  Military candidates must bring a valid military ID to their scheduled appointment.

Identification & Personal Items:

Please note the following test program identification requirements in order to test:

CLEP

  • One primary ID which must be non-expired and government-issued, containing your photo and signature (state ID card, driver's license, passport, or military identification card).

DSST

  • One primary ID which must be non-expired and government-issued, containing your photo and signature (state ID card, driver's license, passport, or military identification card).

MAT

  • One primary ID which must be non-expired and government-issued, containing your photo and signature (state ID card, driver's license, passport, or military identification card).
  • One secondary, non-expired ID issued in candidate's name, no photo or signature required (credit card, library card, vehicle registration, auto insurance card).

Test candidates will not be allowed to begin testing without proper identification.

No personal items are permitted in the testing rooms.  This includes, but is not limited to, all electronic and wireless devices, watches, books, papers, pens/pencils, food and drink.  You will be required to lock all items brought with you (except identification and credit card), and all items from your pockets, into the provided lockers.

Late Examinees and Visitors:

If examinees arrive for their exam 15 minutes past their appointment time, they may not be allowed to test.  Adult visitors are not allowed to wait for an examinee in the Test Center while testing is in progress.  If children are brought to the Test Center with the expectation that they can wait while an adult examinee takes their test, the examinee will be turned away and will need to re-register for their exam.

Parking:

CCU is located at 925 N. Spurgeon Street, Santa Ana, CA 92701 and offers testing candidates free, on-site parking.  Please enter our parking lot and look for the designated spaces along the side and back of our building.

Acceptable Scores and Credit:

The institution the examinee selects for submission of exam scores determines acceptable scores and credit granted for CLEP® and DSST exams.  CCU accepts the American Council on Education's "minimum score for awarding credit."  CCU will award credit hours for acceptable scores, but no grades will be awarded.
