Accreditation
California Coast University holds accreditation through the Accrediting Commission
of the Distance Education and Training Council
(DETC). The DETC is an educational association located in Washington, D.C.
Founded in 1926, it is the standard setting agency for distance education institutions.
The Accrediting Commission of the DETC is listed by the United States Department
of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency. The Secretary of
Education is required by law to publish a list of nationally recognized accrediting
agencies that the Secretary determines to be reliable authorities as to the
quality of education provided by the institutions of higher education.
An agency seeking recognition by the Secretary must meet the Secretary's procedures
and criteria for the recognition of accrediting agencies. First recognized by
the Department of Education in 1959, the DETC was most recently reviewed in
2001 as part of the normal evaluation process.
The Accrediting Commission of the DETC is a recognized member of the Council
for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). CHEA is a private nonprofit national
organization that coordinates accreditation activity in the United States. It
carries forward a long tradition that recognition of accrediting organizations
should be a key strategy to ensure quality, accountability, and improvement
in higher education. Recognition by CHEA affirms that standards and processes
of accrediting organizations are consistent with quality, improvement, and accountability
expectations that CHEA has established.

State Approval
All of the Degree Programs offered by California Coast University have been
reviewed, evaluated and approved by the Bureau of Private Postsecondary and
Vocational Education for the State of California. The University was awarded
"Institutional Approval". This is the highest educational status awarded by
the State of California. To grant the award of "Institutional Approval", the
Bureau must conduct a qualitative review and assessment of each degree program
offered by the institution.
State Approval Is...
| |
Certification that an institution meets statutory standards for integrity, financial stability, and educational quality, including the offering of bonafide instruction by qualified faculty and the appropriate assessment of student's achievement prior to, during, and at the end of its program.
Issued only after the school is visited by a review team. Review teams for degree-granting schools consist of staff from the Bureau and peers educators and administrators who are experts in the subject matter of the school's degree programs.
A guarantee of consumer protection with legislated tuition refund formulas, and student tuition recovery funds available should the institution breach its contract with the students.
Both a license to operate and certification that an institution meets statutory requirements for operation.
Administered by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education which serves as the state agency for approval and regulation of private postsecondary degree-granting and vocational education schools in California.

Approval Update July 2007

The Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education under the Department
of Consumer Affairs for the State of California became inoperative on July 1,
2007.
Recently the Governor of the State of California signed into law legislation
(Assembly Bill 1525) that would extend the previous provision of the education
laws that will ensure continued student protection. This legislation will remain
in effect until January 31, 2008.
Although there will no longer be staff or resources to continue the regular
operations of the Bureau, the Department of Consumer Affairs will provide assistance
to students after July 1, 2007. You can subscribe to receive updates regarding
the Bureau‘s sunset at http://www.bppve.ca.gov/subscribe.htm.
Previously approved educational institutions have been invited to voluntarily
conform and subscribe to all of the standards in place prior to the closing
of the Bureau. The purpose of the voluntary agreement is to provide CCU with
a legal method by which we may comply with all applicable federal statues, rules
and regulations and accreditation standards which require state licensure. This
agreement will further demonstrate to the United States Department of Education
the legal authorized status of CCU under California Law from July 1, 2007 thru
January 31, 2008.
California Coast University has filed its voluntary agreement with the Director
of the Department of Consumer Affairs. A list of schools that have entered into
voluntary agreements with the director will be posted on the former Bureau’s
Web site at www.bppve.ca.gov.
All interested parties may view the enacted legislation on the Legislative
Counsel’s Web site at www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html.

Institutional and Corporate Recognition
The true recognition of any degree comes from its voluntary acceptance by the
business, professional and academic communities. The University has on file
many substantial, affirmative testimonials from graduates and leaders in business,
industry, and the professions. Many of these attest to promotions, new positions,
and salary increases directly related to completion of a course of study and
receipt of a degree from the University.
Corporations are continually seeking programs that will allow their supervisory,
middle and top managerial personnel to improve and continue their education
without sacrificing the productive employee. Dozens of corporations have evaluated
the University's Programs through their Personnel and Human Resource Departments
and have recognized the work and the Degree for advancements, salary increase,
and entry qualifications for new positions.
The following list is a compilation of graduate survey responses and/or financial
records which contain the names of organizations that have reimbursed all or
a portion of a students tuition during or after the degree program was completed.
Companies, organizations and agencies that have recognized and/or provided financial
educational assistance to students of California Coast University.
