Proctored Examinations

The purpose of the Proctored Examination is to verify that you are, in fact, the person who enrolled in the course of study. During Proctor Examinations, you may use your textbook, and any notes that you have taken during the completion of your Study Guide. You may not have assistance from another person.

  • Undergraduate degree programs require all Core and General Education final examinations to be proctored.
  • Graduate degree programs require all Core final examinations to be proctored.

  • Selecting a Proctor
The Proctor is selected by the student. A proctor can be any responsible person who is not a family member. (Such as your Minister, Rabbi, a co-worker, family friend, etc.)

Nominating a course proctor can also be done online through Coast Connection.

    The Proctor's Responsibilities

Your proctor will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assuring that all final examination material is kept secure and confidential.
  • Verification of your identity. (that you are, in fact, the person who enrolled in the course of study.)
  • Verifying that no conflict of interest exists between his/her role as your proctor and your role as a student.
  • Assuring that you complete the examination without any outside assistance of any kind, other than your course textbook, notes, and other study materials. (Electronic calculators are permitted for certain courses.)
  • Assuring that testing takes place at the approved time and place.
  • Verifying that testing took place under the above conditions.
  • Returning your final examination to CCU to be scored.

  • Choosing the Final Examinations that You Wish to Have Proctored
The University allows students to choose which Final Examinations they wish to have administered by a proctor. Once a student has completed a Study Guide and is ready for the final examination the student decides if that course is one that he/she would like to have administered by a Proctor.

In order to ensure that the minimum number of proctored examinations are completed, the University periodically provides to the student notification showing the total number of required proctored examinations in his/her program, along with the total number of proctored examination completed and the total number left to complete.
