Master of Education in Administration Course Descriptions EDU 501 INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY INTO TEACHING 3 Semester Units This course provides the student with information about using Internet resources when designing a curriculum, new technology trends in learning environments, data collection tools and productivity software, professional development skills, and popular uses for technology in various subject areas. EDU 507 CULTURAL ISSUES IN EDUCATION 3 Semester Units This course reviews the way individuals in institutional roles operationalize culturally democratic policies and practices, and examines how political forces influence culturally democratic programs and culturally relevant curriculum development and implementation. EDU 510 MODELS OF TEACHING 3 Semester Units This course explores a variety of teaching models and curriculum theories. Application of theories to classroom utilization is emphasized. EDU 522 EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP 3 Semester Units A review of principles, theories, and concepts related to management, leadership, and administration, and ways to apply them to education. Emphasizes application and implications for an educational leader. EDU 526 SUPERVISION OF INSTRUCTION 3 Semester Units This course reviews ways to improve educational programs in diverse classrooms. Basic concepts of curriculum development, measurement, policies of inclusion, and the effects of culture are explained. Administrative skills that promote equal learning opportunities in the classroom are also reviewed. EDU 529 EDUCATIONAL PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT 3 Semester Units This course reviews the total operation of personnel and school management functions and staff development. Knowledge and understanding of personnel management, personnel relations, personnel laws and procedures, and collective bargaining are covered. EDU 532 SCHOOL-COMMUNITY RELATIONS 3 Semester Units A review of how various social and political forces impact effective school-community relations with an emphasis on diversity. Methods of implementing educational change with community support, and cultural pluralism and its effects on school -community dynamics are also covered. EDU 540 CAREER DEVELOPMENT 3 Semester Units This course provides a general review of career development and career education, including theories and major concepts, career education programs, resource materials, and career counseling skills. EDU 545 LEADERSHIP AND TECHNOLOGY 3 Semester Units This course provides an administrative perspective on instructional technology. Reviews methods of using technology to improve administrative functions, legal and ethical issues regarding educational technology, and funding sources for educational technology. EDU 546 PUBLIC POLICY 3 Semester Units This course reviews educational policy from a micro and macro-perspective. The relationship between education and the economy, education and political structure, special interest groups, and outcomes of educational institutions are all covered. EDU 547 LEGAL ASPECTS OF EDUCATION 3 Semester Units This comprehensive course reviews legal aspects of education. Emphasis on areas of school law that are most likely to be used by school administrators GRM 697 THE RESEARCH PROCESS 3 Semester Units A required course for all Graduate Students even if the student does not plan to utilize the Thesis option. This course assists students in utilization of their natural curiosity in selection of a topic for research. Provides guidance in planning research strategy, documentation of research data, and design of a defensible study. Also explores and analyzes examples of research from many different disciplines, development and use of computer-aided research and writing skills, and logical argumentation techniques in stating and defending research data. |
