Master of Business Administration Human Resources Management Concentration




BAM 501 HUMAN RELATION
3 Semester Units

The dynamics of relationships between and among individuals, groups and organizations. Dynamics studies include authority, communication, conflict between systems, and synergy of systems. Emphasis is on identifying the role of behavioral science in the business world; the importance of understanding the individual; familiarity with such skills as communication, motivation, leadership and human relations training; the environment for human relations: contributions of human relations; and the special challenges in the practice of human relations.


BAM 509 MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
3 Semester Units

Principles, terminology and programming of data processing systems with emphasis on conceptualization and implementation for business applications. Emphasis in areas of information gathering, data retrieval, systems analysis, the use of the computer for business decisions, and management of the computer resource.


BAM 511 MARKETING MANAGEMENT
3 Semester Units

Marketing principles and policies; consideration of marketing functions, price policies and controls, trade channels, merchandising, market research, government regulations, and competitive practices. Emphasis on integration of marketing with other business activities and marketing strategy planning.


BAM 513 FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
3 Semester Units

Financial control at the corporate management level with special reference to policies and practices required to plan and control the sources and uses of a firm's funds. Emphasis on working capital management and selection of alternative investment opportunities, funds acquisition, dividend policies, optimal debt-equity mix, and budgetary and related procedures as basic tools which provide data used by management for decision-making purposes.


BAM 514 INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
3 Semester Units

Provides an integrated treatment of theory, policy, and enterprise in international trade and investment. Course also covers new theories of international trade and the contemporary international monetary system.


BAM 515 ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
3 Semester Units

Review of available theory and research on the behavior, structure, and process of organizations. Survey of materials which critically examine formal organizations and their structure, human motiva-tions and their constructive application to oneself and others. Emphasis on their use in dealing with others in the employment sit-uation. Provides the basis for applying the relevant contributions of behavioral science to the management of organizations.


BAM 530 BUSINESS ETHICS
3 Semester Units

Provides a managerial framework for integrating ethics into strategic business decisions. The framework provides an overview of the concepts, processes and best practices associated with successful business ethics programs. Prepares students for the ethical dilemmas they will face in their business careers.


BAM 550 LEADERSHIP
3 Semester Units

This course focuses on the concept that leadership is a process, not a position. A thorough assessment of advanced leadership skills is presented, as well as their impact on the followers and on the situ-ation. Various leadership models are evaluated in addition to current research on their effectiveness.


BAM 560 STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
3 Semester Units

A study of the concepts, techniques, tools and management processes to facilitate successful technological innovations in the traditional, capital intensive industries such as steel and automobiles, as well as machine tools; consumer electronics; many aspects of semiconductors, computers, and telecommunications; aerospace; and some aspects of biotechnology. It emphasizes the impact of the digital revolution on issues of strategic concern as a critical element for all companies in their strategic management.


GRM 697 THE RESEARCH PROCESS
3 Semester Units

A required for all Graduate Students even if the student does not plan to utilize the Thesis option. Assists students in utilization of their natural curiosity in selection of a topic for research. Provides guidance in planning research strategy, documentation of research data, and design of a defensible study. Also explores and analyzes examples of research from many different disciplines, development and use of computer-aided research and writing skills, and logical argumentation techniques in stating and defending research data.





BAM 510 HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
3 Semester Units

Course explores the effective utilization of personnel and empha-sizes the skillful merging of human talents, needs and aspirations with the requirements of the organization which can result in over-all benefits to society.


BAM 535 ADVANCED HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
3 Semester Units

An advanced examination of human resource management, staffing, employee development, and compensation with an emphasis on developing employee relations, working with organized labor, managing workplace safety and health, and international HRM challenges.


BAM 545 STRATEGIC COMPENSATION
3 Semester Units

This course examines the importance of employees as a key element of strategic compensation programs. More specifically, the course explores how human resource professionals, along with other business professionals, design strategic compensation programs to promote companies' success in competitive markets.
