Does California Coast University award life learning, or experiential credits?
Yes. Students may be awarded up to 30 Semester Units in the undergraduate degree

Credits
Can I get credit for classes that I have already completed?
Yes. Transfer of course credit previously completed at other colleges or universities
that comparably meet CCU course work requirements and standards, are acceptable
for transfer credit. At the undergraduate level, up to 93 units of equivalent
semester credit may be transferred to CCU. At the Graduate level, 6 units of
equivalent semester credit may be transferred to CCU. Official transcripts are
required. Students have 30 days from the date of enrollment to transfer credit
from other institutions. Any credit transferred after 30 days will be awarded
if applicable but course fees are still charged.
What is Specialized Training credit?
Specific training programs, which undergraduate students may have completed
through their company, organization, military training experiences, professional,
or personal licensure requirements or other documented training experiences
may be eligible for academic elective credit. Undergraduate students may be
eligible to earn up to 42 Semester Units of specialized training credit. Additional

What is a Challenge Examination?
A Challenge Examination allows a student to challenge a course by completing
a multiple choice examination covering the content of the entire course, similar

Does CCU Accept CLEP credit?
California Coast University (CCU) welcomes students from a wide variety of backgrounds
and learning experiences. Many students come to our Institution with a firm
grounding in many of the disciplines we teach. CCU recognizes their prior learning
by accepting a full range of College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP)®
exams, which measure mastery of college-level, introductory course content in
a wide range of disciplines. Students who obtain the credit-granting score required
can earn the credits and course exemptions listed below. CCU grants a maximum
of 93 credits for successful performance on CLEP examinations. Additional detailed

CLEP Equivalent Course Credit. CCU is an open national official testing

Does CCU accept EXCELSIOR COLLEGE EXAMINATIONS (ECE) credit?
CCU accepts earned credit from Excelsior College Examinations (ECE). The ECE
were formerly the Regents College Examinations (RCE), College Proficiency Examination
Program (CPEP), the Regents External Degree (RED) Program, and ACT/PEP tests
outside of New York. The ECE are available in business, education, health, liberal
arts and sciences, and nursing. Examination content outlines and study guides

Does CCU accept THOMAS EDISON COLLEGE EXAMINATION PROGRAMS (TECEP) credit?
CCU accepts earned credit from Thomas Edison State College. Thomas Edison State
College offers more than 50 examinations that allow students to earn college
credit without taking formal courses. These examinations, known as TECEP® tests,
are specifically designed to permit students to demonstrate the college-level
knowledge they have gained through work, personal interests, or independent
study by taking a single examination.
TECEP® examinations are available to anyone who is interested in earning college
credit-by-examination. Students at many other colleges and universities have
found wide acceptability for TECEP® credit at their home institutions. TECEP®
examinations are available in a wide range of business and liberal arts subjects,
such as psychology, management, English composition and marketing.

Does CCU accept NEW YORK UNIVERSITY (NYU) PROFICIENCY TESTING IN FOREIGN
LANGUAGES credit?
CCU accepts earned credit for the New York University (NYU) language exams.
The amount of credit depends on your score on the test and the credit recommendation
from NYU. Exams are offered in many languages; check the web site for the complete
list and prices. These tests can be taken at locations outside of New York City,
but you must make arrangements to have the test proctored by a college faculty
member, administrator or government official.

Does CCU accept DANTES credit?
CCU accepts earned credit from DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) Program.
DSST is a nationally recognized testing program that provides students the opportunity
to receive college credit for learning acquired outside the traditional college
classroom. The program consists of exams in 47 undergraduate college courses.
The exams are paper and pencil based, but will be moving to computer-based in
the near future.

Does CCU accept ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM (AP) credit?
CCU accepts earned credit from Advanced Placement (AP) examinations for which
a grade of three or better has been achieved. Exams are administered to high
school students in over a dozen different college subjects. If you have taken
AP examinations, you need to provide the college with official score reports
sent from College Board to CCU Office of Admissions.

Does CCU accept GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION ADVANCED SUBJECT TESTS (GRE)
credit?
CCU accepts earned credit from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Advanced
Subject Tests. GRE Advanced Subject Tests are examinations offered in eight
fields of study. The GRE also offers general aptitude tests, which are not translatable
to credit. The GRE Advanced Subject Test is designed to assess learning normally
expected in a college major, so depending on your score on an exam, you may
be eligible for a certain amount of credit. Subjects include Biochemistry, Cell
and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Literature in English,
Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.
