PSY 180 INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

A study of the application of behavioral science theory and techniques to the management of organizations. The organizational development process, the change agent, and evaluation of systems currently in use.


PSY 330 HISTORY AND SYSTEMS OF PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

A biographical approach to the history, theories, methods, and data of psychology. Emphasis on explanations of the basic concepts and theories.


PSY 380 PERSONALITY THEORIES
3 Semester Units

This course provides an overview of major classic and current Personality Theories, integrating clear explanation of theory with the latest research. It features an up-to-date evaluation of the scientific status of theoretical assertions and related currently important research topics, and illustrates theories through the interpretation of illustrative biographies. It conveys the positive value of various theories, preparing students to apply theoretical ideas to understanding particular individuals they may encounter in their professional work and personal lives.


PSY 102 INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

A study of the methods and findings of contemporary psychology. Includes a survey of human behavior, sensory process, human development, perception, learning, motivation and emotion, personality, adjustment, abnormal behavior, therapy and social interaction.


PSY 115 ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

This course examines the impact of humans on the environment. The entire spectrum of human modification, from careful implementation of design principles to the careless disregard for the impact on others and the entire ecological system, is reviewed. The focus is on applications of science and theory to problem solving involving natural and built environments. Environmental psychology principles are applied to work environments, learning environments, residential environments and leisure settings.


PSY 150 HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

This course explores the meaning of health, illness, and optimal health care. It provides a conceptual integration of the most important relevant research, as well as discussing the most important recent findings. Throughout the course, the biopsychosocial health psychology model is explicitly contrasted and compared to the traditional biomedical model.


PSY 220 DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

The story of human development is an exciting portrayal of life in the process of becoming. From conception to death, the drama unfolds, revealing an ever more complex being in the making. The aim of this course is not to adopt and present one theory of development. Rather, it is to reflect an eclectic point of view that recognizes the wide variety of theories that can contribute to the total picture of human development, and selects the most important ideas from those numerous theoretical positions.


PSY 228 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

This course covers the field of social psychology, including considerations of how people come to understand themselves and others in a social context, how attitudes develop and change, how groups influence behaviors and attitudes, the process of interpersonal attraction and love, altruism, aggression, and prejudice, as well as the research methods used by social psychologists.


PSY 270 LEARNING THEORIES
3 Semester Units

A presentation of learning and behavior theory, methodology, and research relating to how and why humans and animals learn and behave as they do.


PSY 280 MARRIAGE AND FAMILY
3 Semester Units

Presents a representative summary of the literature of family therapy and the complex and changing social unit known as the family. Contemporary theories and issues in marriage and family therapy are presented.


PSY 312 TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS IN PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

An introductory study of psychological tests. Includes an introduction to the basic concepts and operations of testing; theoretical considerations, application and effective use of testing data.


PSY 408 ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

An eclectic, multicultural approach to abnormal behavior, drawing on contributions from various disciplines and theoretical stances. Discussion of psychosocial and psychophysiological factors. Blends case vignettes and client's experience with research based explanations.


PSY 418 COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

This course encompasses all that counseling is today addressing the history of counseling and the theory behind its practice; exploring the multicultural, ethical, legal environments in which counselors operate; and examining the variety of skills today's counselors are expected to exhibit.


PSY 430 EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
3 Semester Units

Educational Psychology focuses on principles and theories related to human learning and motivation, child and adolescent development, individual and group differences, and psychological assessment related to classroom practice. Emphasis is placed on identifying, discussing, and summarizing core concepts and principles relevant in classrooms.
